Former police detectives, authors and co-hosts of the Crime Time Inc. podcast, Simon McLean and Tom Wood, come to Giffnock Library for an evening of true crime, behind-the-scenes policing stories, humour, audience questions and insights that rarely make it into the headlines.
Simon is a former Strathclyde Police detective whose career spanned frontline policing, CID, the Drug Squad, Serious Crime and undercover work. Tom spent nearly four decades in the police, leaving Lothian & Borders as Deputy Chief Constable, and was officer in overall command of the investigation into the World's End Murders.
Refreshments are provided, and there is a free prize draw to win a book bundle.
Books
Kintyre
Simon McLean
Simon's debut Eddie Weir thriller, in which a retired detective is drawn back to a case that was never properly investigated, and finds that what went wrong was a deliberate choice rather than a mistake. It is a story of organised crime operating across Scotland, the UK and Ireland, alongside the people trusted to stop it.
Buy Kintyre →The Ten Percent
Simon McLean
A frank memoir of Simon's decades on the front line and undercover, written with bluntness and dark humour, about how decisions really get made inside the system and what they mean for victims, families and communities long after the news moves on.
Sex, Spies and Bloody Murder
Tom Wood
Tom's newest book collects true stories from Scotland's underbelly, from a hapless group of German spies landed in Scotland during the Second World War to the tale of the country's greatest policeman and its most notorious brothel keeper.
Buy Sex, Spies and Bloody Murder →Ruxton: The First Modern Murder
Tom Wood
The inside story of a 1935 Lancaster murder investigation of extraordinary complexity, and the pioneering work of the Scottish forensic scientists who cracked it. It was shortlisted for the Saltire Society's Scottish National Book Awards in 2021 and was its publisher's top seller four years running.
